Gatwick Airport Jobs – What’s to know?
London’s Gatwick airport is the second-largest and second-busiest international airport of the metropolis, and indeed, of the entire United Kingdom and offers thousands of Gatwick airport jobs. It has the most point-to-point flights in Europe and the busiest single-use runway. Second only to Heathrow Airport, Gatwick airport comprises two terminals, denoted by cardinal points (North and South), which cover an area of 2.75 million square feet, in total.
The airport was established in 1930 as a flying club, and received its public license four years later. In 1952, when it only had the South terminal, it was chosen by the government as an alternative airport to Heathrow, and was officially opened for national commercial use by the Queen in 1958. It was owned by the British Airports Authority in 1965, and by the privatized BAA in 1986. The North Terminal opened in 1994.
It was bought by Global Infrastructure Partners in 2009, the year after its half-century anniversary. An airport upgrade and infrastructure expansion project is currently underway, which totaled over £3 billion in investment and is estimated to be completed in 2019. Gatwick aims to reinstate services which were suspended due to global recession, expanding its operations and launching additional routes. It is also quickly adding more and more Gatwick jobs.
